Post Ranger/Necro advice

I'm playing a Ranger/Monk and a Necro/Elementalist, not the exact combo you are doing, but I have some experience with both.

As for a ranger primary, you'll probably want to focus your attribute points in marksmanship (to improve your bow damage) and expertise (to reduce the energy cost of your ranger skills). For beast mastery and wilderness survival, the choice is up to you, but I would suggest doing only one or the other to keep your attribute points in the fewest number of categories.

For the Necro attributes, I play a Necro primary, not a secondary. Your secondary profession omits a unique attribute category that is only available to a primary profession. For example, 'expertise' is not available to a Ranger secondary profession. (I apologize, I forget which one is excluded for a Necro secondary. Maybe soul reaping?) My favorite for the Necro is Blood Magic, there are a lot of skills that use this attribute. Later in the game you may want to try the curses attribute, though you won't have many skills that use it early on.

With both professions, it is a good idea to only put your attribute points in 4-5 categories, that way those categories will be much better. It's a choice you have to make to decide how you want to play your character. (e.g. Do you want a ranger pet, or would you rather have a good 'ignite arrows' (more fire damage) using wilderness survival.) The choice is yours, I suggest that you experiment and decide for yourself what you want to do. Also, your refund points, which you get 1 every 250xp, allows you to exchange your attribute points, so don't think you are committed to keeping your points in one category or the other.

As far as skills go, just pick up as many as you can along the way. You can buy some at the skills trader, but I would recommend that you complete quests to get them. You only have so many skill points to use, and you'll want to save them to get the elite skills later. (Later, you'll be able to purchase a Signet of Capture for 40gp and 1 skill point. This will let you capture skills from Boss creatures.) The elite skills can only be captured, not purchased. You'll get a lot of skill points along the way, so you can purchase some skills with them, just don't get in the habit of spending them all early on.

I hope this is useful to you!

Have fun!
